It is time and circumstances that determine the fertility needs of a couple or individual. Though sterilization is considered a permanent option, it can be reversed when the need arises. There are options depending on your needs and how the procedure was carried out in the first place. Understanding details surrounding sterilization reversal allows you to make the right decision.

To reverse the situation, the blocked parts of the fallopian tubes must be removed and the two ends rejoined. This is not a guarantee that you will be fertile again. It also does not provide a guarantee that you can get pregnant again. It will however increase the possibility of conceiving.

An open fallopian tube does not guarantee a turnaround in fertility. There are other factors that intervene and that must be considered if the procedure is to be successful. Of critical important is the procedure used during sterilization. While some procedures can be reversed, others cannot. It is therefore important to have the procedure carried out by an expert in the first place to increase your chances in case you desire to have it reversed.

Tube litigation is not recommended if a woman is below 30 years. It reduces the possibility of reversing the process. Other people undergo the surgery on the basis of pressure from family members or marital conflicts. To increase your chances of regaining fertility, opt for a ring or tying the tubes together. Cauterizing the tubes using electric current is equality effective but greatly reduces your chances of reversing the damage.

Before recommending a reversal, your doctor will consider several factors. They include your general health, age, the litigation surgery you had and finally the health of ovaries, uterus and fallopian tubes. The doctor is especially keen on the length of remaining tube because it affects your fertility. Tissue scars as a result of other reproductive health related surgeries could also affect the success of the turnaround procedure.

Other tests are also carried out to establish whether you can get pregnant. They involve examining the blood through tests and scans alongside other organs. Should the tests reveal that a fallopian tube less than 4 centimeters will remain, surgery might be abandoned. The doctor will also be interested in the sperm count of the fertilizing partner. It determines the chances of pregnancy.

Surgery takes place at an outpatient center or hospital under general anesthesia. Anesthesia eliminates the possibility of pain allowing surgery to proceed with the least discomfort. A small cut referred to as bikini cut is made to access the clip or ring used to block the tubes. Fine stitches are used in reconnecting the uterus to the ovaries. Within two to three hours, the operation should be complete.

You may be admitted for two to three days depending on your condition and based on the delicate nature of this surgery. The pain and discomfort that results is managed using pain killers. You will resume normal activities within two to three weeks. However, if this procedure is not successful, there are other options including artificial insemination. They all depend on the health of your ovaries.
